Join us to learn expressive and embodied practices that will help you re-energize your mind and body, reconnect with your community and yourself, restore your spirit, and renew your sense of play and imagination. During this 12 month program, faculty focus is on experiential restorative practices that will introduce you to a variety of integrative, arts-based, expressive, and embodied awareness strategies that can be immediately applied to your practice. This program brings together a diverse faculty and the wide array of modalities, approaches, and practices they use. Each session includes dynamic learning, interactive activities, and opportunities to network with participants. Engage in movement, rhythm, yoga, storytelling, visual journaling, vocalization, play, improvisation, and more to resensitize and enliven the body and mind through powerful hands on experiences to process trauma, relieve stress, and restore the self.
Providing effective therapy to any given population can depend on the ability to connect with and understand cultural signifiers and examine them in relevant ways collaboratively. In this four part program J.C. Hall, a Hip Hop therapist, and Cathy Malchiodi, an expressive arts therapist, employ strategies for using HHT to transform dysregulation using hands-on practices that leverage movement, rhythm, vocalization, and invitations to explore meaning that can be introduced in therapeutic settings. Through these approaches, we will explore bottom-up and top-down processes for expression and restoration in the treatment of trauma. By engaging in basic interactions with beats and rhythmic language, participants will have the opportunity to explore the modulating effects of HHT through group exercises and discussions. Each session will contain hands-on practices that will provide participants with tangible skills that are both accessible and transferable across settings.
